MSB donates to AJAA and WFP
JUNE/20/2009

Malawi Savings Bank (MSB) on Wednesday donated money worth K350,000 to Association for Journalist Against Aids (AJAA) and World Food Program (WFP) to assist them in their operations. AJAA which deals in HIV/Aids dissemination received K200,000 while WFP, which deals mostly in school feeding programmes in a bid to end hunger and malnutrition got K150,000.

According to MSB Head of Corporate Banking Kayisi Sadala, the bank felt it was a worth while venture to assist the two organisations in their respective projects. "As you know that the HIV/Aids pandemic has affected almost everyone, we felt it is important to support such an initiative. "You might also be aware that children can not concentrate in class if they learn on an empty stomach as such the project is a motivator. Both projects are supporting government efforts in achieving the MDGs and as a social responsible corporate citizen we feel the need to assist," said Kayisi.

On his part AJAA Chairman Rex Chikoko said the organisation was targeting the youths in the awareness campaign hence it would visit a number of schools in the southern region. "This assistance has come at a right time when we are preparing for a debt at some schools in Blantyre. "Our aim is targeting schools and looking at information that students at that level have on HIV/ Aids so that we can cover the information gap that is there," said Chikoko.

WFP Head for Blantyre Sub office Marta Fontan thanked the bank for its support especially on the big walk. "Thank you so much for the support of the walk the world, through which we want to raise awareness on the hunger problems faced by children who will assist us in raising money for the school feeding project," she said. WFP helps about 630,000 children in 13 districts accross the country through the school feeding programme and has proved to be a success.
