MSB Moves closer to farmers
Daily Times OCTOBER/25/2010
Malawi Savings Bank has come up
with an account called Champini for farmers of different
cash crops as a way of empowering them to play an active role in
the economy.
MSB Credit Manager Chiyamiko Littah said during a country wide sensitisation
whistle stop tour at Nsaru in Lilongwe Rural on Friday, the newly
introduced account seeks to link farmers to the bank.
Littah explained that with the Champini Account, people who have
farmers club accounts will now have personal ones so that they can
manage their finances at individual level.
“These farmers used to simply organise themselves into a group and
it was only two or three people who would come to the bank to get
the money on behalf of their friends. This compromised the value
for money at individual level. With Champini, everyone will deal
with the bank individually,” Littah said, adding that MSB will offer
guidance on use of income.
MSB Marketing Supervisor Elizabeth Polepole observed that the response
from the farmers has been positive as they will now associate themselves
with the bank freely and easily. Polepole said instilling a saving culture
will also help in the development trend for farmers.
Dominic Chilewani, a burley farmer in the area thanked the bank for the new account.
The account balance remains K500 and the bank says there is no charge for switching from the Savings account.
