The Malawi Savings Bank (MSB) has spoken highly of the World Exposition
2010 to be held in Shanghai, China, saying Malawi stands to benefit
a lot on trade profile
MSB Head of Human Resources and Administration Haston Chamba made the remarks on Friday when the bank presented a return air ticket to Frank Malunga, Chairperson of Blantyre Curios Exporters Association..
“Malawi’s participation at the exposition will boost our country as a tourism destination; enhance Malawi’s trade profile also motivate, encourage and open new markets for the curios products.
It is our sincere hope that the Association will greatly benefit from this exposition and that all the knowledge that the Chairperson will gain from the experience will be shared with the rest of the members of the Association,” Chamba said.
He said MSB gave Malunga an air ticket after being approached by a senior Manager at the Malawi Export promotion Council (Mepc) through Robert Salama.
MSB’s relationship with Blantyre Curios dealers dates back to the early 2000s. In 2005 the bank built a decent structure from where the association’s members are selling their products.
Malunga said the association would not have been represented had the bank not provided the ticket.
Salama said the exposition will start on May 1 and end on October 31. He said the exposition will help market the country’s culture, trade and agriculture.
Malawi is expected to showcase its business forum, tourism, investment and trade from 14th to 26th July. Malawi Dance Troupe will participate and are expected to perform seven performances of 30 minutes each.
Frank Nyalusu Phiri, another member of the curios association is also going to attend the exhibition and will stay in China for six months courtesy of the Chinese Government.
The exposition has attracted 183 countries.
